Strike

Don’t wait. Strike. Strike now. This is the moment.

You could spend ten minutes or an hour or two browsing the web, checking your email, settling in. Don’t. Get comfortable with the immediate strike. The lightening strike. The strike that gets it done now, not later.

There is always later. There is only one now.

Strike.

Stretch

It is safe to do the things we’ve always done. Stopping at that line though means we don’t grow. We have to stretch beyond it. To improve, to grow, we have to reach beyond the line we know. Stretch past the safety of what we know.

By stretching we change where the line is. Stretching just a little bit at a time. We redraw it in ever increasing circles. Like rings in a tree trunk. In time we can look back and see how much we’ve grown. How much more we are capable of now than when we started.

Stretch yourself today. A small stretch, just a small stretch.

It’s Monday

When it’s time to start, just start.

Don’t grumble cause it’s Monday. Rejoice in it and start. You have the whole week ahead.

If you have something against Monday, the problem isn’t with the day, it’s with what you do on the day. If Monday’s a problem then change what you do.

The whole week’s ahead.

Flawed

We are human, we are flawed.

Often though we shelter ourselves from the reality. We choose not to see our flaws, whatever they may be. That we are too quick to become irritated. That we shy away from speaking to people we do not already know. That we are nervous or anxious. That, that, that…

No matter the flaw it is not something to be ashamed of or hidden. It is part of us. It is an opportunity to become better, to improve.

We are human, we can grow. Become the best you can be.

Fight the Blank

Starting from scratch is difficult. Anything is possible. Too much is possible.

With so many possibilities there’s no clear direction to take. There’s a blank space you have to fill. That’s daunting. The blank is a problem that’s possible to have when starting almost anything.

How to beat it? Just start. Put something down. Put anything down. Just start.

Fight the blank.

Victim of a Moment

You’re meant to be working. You’re meant to be writing. You’re meant to be exercising. You’re meant to be doing.

But you’re vulnerable. You’re being stalked by a moment. It’s waiting for you, it’s watching you. It’s ready to strike, it’s ready to pounce. You’re vulnerable, you’re exposed.

When that moment arrives you need to be ready. Don’t let your good intentions can become undone. Don’t allow a lack of will power to defeat you.

Defend yourself with rules. With decisions already made. Such as only allowing yourself sugary food on certain days. Or working on that project before you watch tv.

When armed you can face down a moment. You can beat a moment if it attacks.

To avoid being the victim of a moment you must be the law.

Check Your Compass

Where are you now?

Check your compass.

Have you blown off course?

Check your compass.

Have you gone too far in one direction?

Check your compass.

Have you turned too soon?

Check your compass.

Life is a journey. To succeed you need to know where you’re going or you will simply wander. To get to your destination you need to have a map.

Make a plan, follow it, and check your compass regularly.

Back Along the Path

We journey through life from milestone to milestone.

Now and then we pause and look back along the path we’ve traveled. We judge the steps we’ve taken and the steps we haven’t. We judge our progress. And sometimes we come up short. The journey we’ve made is less than we hoped. We judge that we’ve not come far enough. We judge that we’ve moved too slowly or too quickly. Procrastinated or rushed. Stayed a while too long or not long enough. We could judge our journey all of these things.

We cannot change the steps we’ve taken. We cannot make them faster or slower. We cannot make them different. The steps we’ve taken are set. They are past.

Yet, our journey is not over. We have more to travel. Past steps do not set the steps of the future.

Methods

There are many ways of doing things. Some are better, some are worse.

Is a blank screen the same as a blank page? They are both blank. They both need to be filled. But, if you’re stuck on one it could help to try the other.

This isn’t just something to try if you’re writing. There are different methods for most things. If you’re stuck with one try another.
